New York Featured Event

On January 31, sex educator Jamye Waxman will be presenting the first salon in her Girl Talk series -- an intimate event designed to give women a venue to talk with each other about sex. Given Jamye's wide-ranging experience in the field, this event's one you won't want to miss.

I first met Jamye when she was a booker/producer for Bob Berkowitz's "LoveBytes" cable access TV show. She began her career in sex education as a Radio Producer for Eyada.com, where she immersed herself in adult entertainment and began her pursuit of other sex-positive adventures. She booked me a few more times when she worked for Bob again on his popular Metro TV show "Naked New York." She also did the producer thing for "The Joan Rivers Show" and "The Alan Colmes Show." You can read her advice column "Sex Ed" in Playgirl and her sex and relationship column "Hot Wax" in Steppin' Out. Jamye is still working on completing her Masters Degree in sex education at Widener University in Pennsylvania and currently serves as President of Feminists for Free Expression. Her years as a salesperson and then sex educator at the world-famous sex shop Babeland (formerly Toys in Babeland) in New York City has provided her with all sorts of insight into sexuality, kinky curiosity and the general levels of comfort people have with vibrators, dildos and strap-ons!

Jamye has quite successfully presented her workshops at a few of my Sexy Salons and is now producing them for a wider audience. Jamye's classes are 90-minute participatory group discussions and educational experiences. Each workshop touches on a variety of topics focusing on sex, relationships, communication and includes different teaching styles and tools.

Jamye explains that in this particular workshop, "the first 45 minutes will be dedicated to how to please ourselves as women and talking about how our partners can please us as well." She goes on to say that, following a brief break, "the second 45 minutes will offer tips and techniques on how to please your man. It will be friendly, laid back, open, non-judgmental and informative." This will be for women only, but Jamye says, "I want to do one for men on understanding women, too. That one's in the works."

She has chosen the Happy Endings venue because it offers a safe, comfortable and intimate space for her Salons. "It's the official first ever Girl Talk sex salon," she explains. "We'll sit around sipping cocktails as we get into the ins and outs of ye olde in and out. There will be tips, there will be techniques and lots of juicy and delicious information and titillation. We'll all contribute and learn from each other, and then go home to practice! Here's the coolest part: the bar isn't even open until 10pm, so we get to talk about sex in a public space but it's totally private."

If you're interested in attending, email Jamye and let her know so she can put your name on the guest list. The cost for the Salon is $40, which includes two free drinks and a goodie bag courtesy of Playgirl.

Ms. Waxman will be presenting monthly Sex Salons at Happy Endings, focusing on all sorts of sexual concerns. Keep an eye on her web site for future themes such as The Sexth Sense, Sex Boot Camp: All About Him, Sword Swallowing 101 and Adults Like Toys Too. She is also available to give similar workshops for bachelorette parties, ladies nights out, private social functions, college lectures "or any event that brings people together in a fun, relaxed environment with a focus on learning about sex and sensuality."
