The first time I interviewed Buck Angel, otherwise known as "the man with a pussy," he gladly explained that, for him, sex was good whether he was being fucked or doing the (strap-on) fucking. One of the advantages of being the world's foremost FTM transsexual porn star is that he can go every way -- as long as it's hot and the fans like watching.

Confronted with Angel's amazing anatomy, once-confused audiences are finally starting to figure Buck out. He has starred in several video releases, including "Buck's Beaver," "Buck Fever," "'V' is for Vagina" and "The Buck Stops Here," all produced by his own company, Buck Angel Entertainment. In Allanah Starr's "Big Boob Adventures," Angel and MTF performer Starr perform a gender-bending scene that almost defies comprehension and was nominated for Most Outrageous Sex Scene at the 2007 AVN Awards.

Angel was awarded the 2007 AVN Award for Best Transsexual Performer of the Year.

It's almost never been easy for Angel, who experienced the difficulties of transitioning, then going on to carve his own niche. But now that he has transitioned into his role as an adult performer and the most visible FTM guy on the planet, Angel seems to have come through to the other side, a completely self-made man.

Eros Zine: It's been about two years since you talked to Eros Zine. A lot's been happening with you since then -- what are some changes that have happened, personally and professionally?

Buck Angel: My God! I don't think I could list them all! But these are the most significant: First I won the 2007 AVN award for Transsexual Performer of the Year, which is the biggest thing to happen to me in my career. I shot a movie with Titan Media, "Cirque Noir" which was the first appearance of a female-to-male transsexual in a gay movie.

I moved from Robert Hill about a year ago. Things just weren't working for me there, so I now produce all my own movies under my own studio: Buck Angel Entertainment.

I am the subject of a documentary about my porn career, which is currently being filmed. I performed at the Black Party in NYC and Hustlaball in Berlin. Those are exclusively gay men events, so that was another "first" that a guy like me performed. I won the Circuit Performer of the Year award for my Black Party performance. I was also on the Howard Stern show. That is a whole other story, but it was a great experience. He pronounced me his most memorable guest ever!

Eros Zine: What did it mean to you to win the AVN Award this year?

Buck Angel: Acceptance as a valid performer doing good work in my chosen profession. I have really fought hard to get here. AVN rocks! They have balls to give me that award. I really feel like this whole thing I have been doing is finally validated by my peers and the industry that I frankly struggled to get into.

Eros Zine: For people who don't know much about you, can you explain why it's so important for you to be so open about yourself? I think many individuals who are transsexual would rather just blend in with the crowd, but you're really in the spotlight.

Buck Angel: Well I just felt like it was time to have guys like me be represented in the adult industry. I wanted to make sure that it was not made as "freak porn" and the only way to do that was for me to do it myself. It has really worked out great, but it has been a journey. I stood my ground with a company that wanted it to be all freak, but as you can see Buck Angel has given a good representation to transsexual porn.

Yes, you're right; most people who transition just want to blend in. I was like that too. That is the whole reason you want to change genders. Because as transsexuals we always felt like the odd man out. We just wanted to appear and be accepted as the gender we feel to be inside. This is why it is difficult for me to find other FTM guys to work with me. But I think now they are starting to come around. Once I finally became truly comfortable with myself I found it important to put myself out there so other guys like me could realize that it is okay to be a man with a pussy.

Eros Zine: It must be difficult enough feeling conflicted about your gender/body image prior to and during transition -- but how difficult was it dealing with your sexuality? Did you feel a lot of confusion in terms of sexual orientation or have you always been bi?

Buck Angel: Yeah, that was a big one for me. I really always was more attracted to women but during my transition things started to change for me. I started to become very horny all the time and started feeling attracted to men. Not in an emotional way but in more of a sexual way, if that makes sense. So my porn helped me deal with that as well.

I would say in the beginning of my transition I was a straight guy, but now I like to say I am "sexual" -- I like it all!

Eros Zine: Would you call yourself "bi" or do you prefer not to be put into a category?

Buck Angel: Yeah, I am a "not the category" kinda guy! Like I said before I am "sexual."

Eros Zine: Has being a porn star helped you learn more about your sexuality?

Buck Angel: One hundred percent! It has helped me realize how people always want everything to be black and white and if it's not, you're a freak. Well, I like it all and really never talked about it to anyone as I was experiencing those feelings because I felt embarrassed. But through my porn I have been able to express my full sexuality. It feels really good to be so open about myself.

Eros Zine: What was it like when you first started putting out videos? Did you have a hard time making people understand? Are people more receptive to you now?

Buck Angel: Since you ask: it was very difficult at first. People wanted nothing to do with me and no one would help me get my stuff out initially. Thank God for my website transexual-man.com because that really helped me to network with the adult web community, who were more open to helping. I knew one day when I started to get recognition people would be pissed they missed that opportunity with me. It worked out thanks to my wife, who kept pushing me when I would feel down that no one would deal with me. She said it would eventually pay off, and to stay with it - and here I am.

Eros Zine: What was the first scene you ever did? Did it make you nervous or were you psyched to do it?

Buck Angel: The first scene was with Kitty out in the woods with a small handheld camera. We had so much fun. I loved it and I knew that this was going to be amazing. I don't think I have ever been nervous on a set. I shot with Titan and thought I would be a bit nervous but they were so easy to work with. And my fuck partners were so great. I think I get way more nervous when I have to keep my clothes on and do an interview on radio or TV.

Eros Zine: Now that you have several videos out and have become more visible -- what do you hear from people? Are they mostly supportive? Do you still get negative reactions?

Buck Angel: Oh wow - things have changed! I would say people are way more into me now. I still get people writing to me that they just found out about me. I think that's so crazy. I signed a deal with Shots Video in Europe to distribute my movies and that is going absolutely great. The European market is much more open-minded. But I do think this year is going to be huge for me.

Eros Zine: Do you hear a lot from people that are going through transition or thinking about doing it? What are some of the things you tell them? Do you feel like an advocate for the transgender community?

Buck Angel: Yes, many transsexuals write to me from all over the world. I feel bad that I cannot always answer every email. But when I can, I try to let them know that what they are going through is totally normal; we all go through the same feelings. You can make it better if you want or you can just bitch about it for the rest of your life. It's your life -- do whatever you want, but make yourself happy. I guess I sort have become an advocate by default.

Eros Zine: What question do you get asked the most?

Buck Angel: "Can you get pregnant?" (No -- the testosterone has stopped my period, though I do have a uterus and all the usual parts still there). Followed by, "Which bathroom do you use?" which totally cracks me up. Can you imagine how the girls would scream if I tried to go into the Ladies Room?!

Eros Zine: If it were possible to have a functional, real-as-possible penis through surgery, would you do it?

Buck Angel: No, not now. I think I would have done it before. But to be honest I have really come to love myself. I really believe that I do not need a penis to be a man. I am getting old and really don't want to have to deal with surgery. But I do hope someday that they get that surgery improved. It would be so great for all those guys who really feel like that is what they need. I hope that my work will help some to feel like they are totally okay with what they have.

Eros Zine: Are you being approached by any "mainstream" porn companies for potential projects?

Buck Angel: Well I did a Titan Release last year but I am sure someone else will get the balls soon like maybe Eon McKai. *wink wink*

Eros Zine: What's your next project?

Buck Angel: I am super-excited about one of my next releases coming out. I have worked so hard on it, and I had a really amazing cast and crew. It is my biggest production yet. I think it is going to blow people away. The movie is called Buckback Mountain and we filmed it entirely in the desert. It is shot with an amazing camera and has better production values than anything I've done before. It is just awesome. As you can see I am very excited about it.

Eros Zine: I know you moved to the interior of Mexico -- why Mexico? What's it like there for you? Do people there realize that you're a porn star?

Buck Angel: I moved to the Yucatan in Mexico. It is incredible! I love it here. I moved to Mexico because it was the closest and most affordable place to move to out of the USA and I wanted to move from the US. It is still close by, so I can fly back to LA to shoot every month or so. The people here are very nice. I have a great life. It's sort of like "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" here. I have a huge compound with a maid/cook, gardener, pool man, my own private gym... everything. I don't know if people recognize me here but if they did it would be fine. They are very friendly and welcoming to me here. Did you know prostitution is legal here?

Eros Zine: Tell me about the Mayan ruins you've been investigating.

Buck Angel: WOW! They just blow my mind. They are thousands of years old (from far back as 600 BC). Some haven't even been excavated yet. Some are so huge you can't get your mind around how the Mayan people could have built them. The energy here is very magical. Okay, I know I sound all new age. But really I feel very lucky to be here.

Eros Zine: What was the last tattoo that you got?

Buck Angel: My Buck Angel tattoo on my stomach. Right above my... Anyway it is a buck head with angel wings and a halo, sitting on a king's crown. Pretty awesome. I got it from Walt Clark at NOLA Tattoo, before I moved to Mexico from New Orleans.

Eros Zine: Thanks, Buck! Fans of Buck Angel can keep up with his exploits at buckangel.com and transexual-man.com.
