From skateboarder to soldier to nude model, Heather Vandeven reached the pinnacle of centerfold success as a Penthouse Pet in record time. She's also starred, as Heather Vuur, in the Ninnworx films Aperture and Fem L'Amour -- not to mention Howard Stern's on-demand Heather and Justine Ride the Sybian. She spent some time between traveling engagements to chat with ErosZine about Costa Rica, camaraderie and birth control glasses.
Eros Zine: Let's start with the basics: Where did you grow up?
Heather Vandeven: Northern Cali. Santa Rosa. A sleepy farming town.
Eros Zine: And sorry, but I always have to ask: were you a cheerleader? Or a bad girl? Or both?!
Heather Vandeven: I was a skateboarder and definitely a trouble maker.
Eros Zine: Excellent! I also hear you were in the Army. What was that like?
Heather Vandeven: The army was an adventure for me. I joined when I was17. Basic training was hell but the worst part was the sleep deprivation. Once I started doing my actual job, food and health inspecting, it got a lot easier. In fact I had so much extra time I finished my Bachelor of Science in education.
Eros Zine: It must be every man's fantasy... a centerfold in basic training. Was it as sexy as it sounds?
Heather Vandeven: Not at all! We were all so sweaty, dirty and tired. Plus I wore glasses then, and in the army you are issued glasses that you have to wear; they call them BC's, short for birth control. They were thick like Coke bottles, big and dark brown. Not a good look, trust me.
Eros Zine: But I'll bet the camaraderie must've been awesome.
Heather Vandeven: I did make some good friends that helped me through that, but I have lost touch with them all now.
Eros Zine: What's it been like being the Penthouse Pet of the Year 2007 so far?
Heather Vandeven: Fabulous! Instant glamour. When I show up at events it's fun to represent the naughty and daring girls of Penthouse.
Eros Zine: Do you get to travel a lot?
Heather Vandeven: Oh yes, it's been nonstop: Miami, Atlanta, New York, etc. I love seeing all the different places, especially when I can party with the other Pets.
Eros Zine: What have been your favorite US cities?
Heather Vandeven: New York. I could never live there, but when you're being driven around and have people there to look out for you and fun things to do, it is pretty much awesome.
Eros Zine: I hear you love Costa Rica. Tell us about that.
Heather Vandeven: Costa Rica is a place I've been visiting on and off since 2000. I actually lived there for half a year working as a jungle tour guide. It's just so untouched and beautiful, a place to live and play alongside nature.
Eros Zine: You also got to interview Ted Nugent for Penthouse Forum. What was he like?
Heather Vandeven: That rocked! he's a chatty Kathy. He is very accepting of alternative lifestyles and views but is very opinionated about what his truth is.
Eros Zine: Do you agree with his politics? Or didn't you two talk politics?
Heather Vandeven: Of course we talked politics. I did agree with him. People should have the right to bear arms. Drugs are bad. Gay marriage should be legal.
Eros Zine: Wow, who knew he was for gay marriage? So, tell us about your dream date?
Heather Vandeven: I like the simple things in life: a yummy dinner and a movie, maybe a concert or salsa lessons.
Eros Zine: Simple enough! And what about your dream job?
Heather Vandeven: Come on, is that a trick question? I'm living the dream. But I would also one day love to practice holistic nutrition.
